In 1957, the publication of On the Road rocketed Jack Kerouac to fame, launching the Beat Generation and inspiring a multi-generational obsession with “the road.” Kerouac wrote the novel in a three-week burst on paper he taped together and called “the scroll.” Penn’s Kelly Writers House celebrates this 50th anniversary with improvisational jazz and a marathon reading of On the Road by local luminaries and members of the public.

For more information and to participate in the reading, contact Kelly Writers House or 215.573.WRIT.
